Job Title: Senior Project Engineer / Project Manager

Position Summary:

The Senior Project Engineer / Project Manager is responsible for leading and managing capital improvement projects, engineering initiatives, and technical problem-solving efforts within the manufacturing environment. This role works closely with plant leadership, production teams, maintenance personnel, and technical departments to identify operational challenges and implement effective engineering solutions.

The Senior Project Engineer oversees projects from initial concept through design, budgeting, installation, and final startup. This position requires strong technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to coordinate multiple teams while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, and within budget. Employees in this role are expected to follow all company policies, safety procedures, engineering standards, and management directives.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:


Project Management

• Lead and manage capital improvement projects from concept through completion.
• Develop detailed project plans including scope, schedule, resources, and cost estimates.
• Prepare and present project justifications and return-on-investment (ROI) analyses to upper management.
• Manage project budgets and monitor costs to ensure projects remain within approved financial limits.
• Coordinate contractors, vendors, and internal teams during project execution.
• Oversee project timelines and ensure milestones are met.
• Provide startup assistance and commissioning support for new equipment or systems.

Engineering & Technical Support

• Identify operational problems or improvement opportunities within manufacturing processes.
• Conduct root cause failure analysis to determine causes of equipment or process issues.
• Develop corrective engineering solutions and present recommendations to leadership.
• Support plant operations by troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, or process issues.
• Review and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation.
• Assist in designing equipment modifications or new systems to improve efficiency, safety, or product quality.

Design & Planning

• Work with mechanical and electrical designers to develop equipment layouts and system designs.
• Assist in the development of specifications for new equipment and production systems.
• Review CAD drawings and engineering documentation for accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
• Ensure engineering designs meet safety, quality, and operational standards.

Construction & Implementation

• Monitor project work at the factory site to ensure progress aligns with project schedules.
• Supervise contractors and installation teams during construction or equipment installation.
• Ensure all work adheres to safety regulations, engineering standards, and company policies.
• Verify installation aligns with engineering drawings and project specifications.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with production, maintenance, engineering, and management teams.
• Communicate project status, risks, and updates to plant leadership and stakeholders.
• Support maintenance teams with technical expertise related to equipment improvements.
• Assist in developing long-term engineering strategies to support plant growth and operational efficiency.

Safety & Compliance Responsibilities

• Ensure all engineering projects follow company safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Identify and mitigate safety risks during project planning and execution.
• Ensure contractors and employees follow plant safety procedures.
• Maintain compliance with engineering codes, company standards, and industry best practices.

 

 

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or related field preferred).
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and industrial equipment.
• Experience managing capital projects in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Knowledge of engineering principles, materials, and mechanical systems.
• Experience conducting root cause failure analysis and implementing corrective solutions.
• Strong project management and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience with project management software and CAD tools preferred.

 

Work Environment

• Manufacturing/industrial setting with both office and plant floor responsibilities.
• Requires standing, walking, and interacting with production equipment and project sites.
• Must follow all PPE requirements and company safety policies.
