Job Description: Production Planner
Job Summary:
The Production Planner / Shipping & Order Forecasting Coordinator is responsible for forecasting customer demand, planning production schedules, coordinating shipping requirements, and ensuring timely delivery of door skin products. This role works closely with Sales, Production, Inventory, and Logistics teams to maintain efficient operations, optimize inventory levels, and meet customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Planning:
• Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly production schedules based on customer orders and demand forecasts.
• Analyze sales trends, historical data, and customer requirements to forecast future demand.
• Coordinate production priorities with manufacturing supervisors to ensure efficient workflow.
• Monitor production capacity and recommend schedule adjustments as needed.
• Ensure adequate raw material availability to support production plans.
Order Forecasting & Inventory Management:
• Forecast customer orders using historical demand, market trends, and customer communications.
• Track inventory levels of finished door skins and raw materials.
• Identify potential inventory shortages or excess inventory and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate planning data within ERP/MRP systems and spreadsheets.
Shipping & Logistics Coordination:
• Schedule shipments to meet customer delivery requirements.
• Coordinate with transportation providers and warehouse personnel to ensure on-time deliveries.
• Monitor shipping schedules and communicate any delays or changes to customers and internal departments.
• Prepare and review shipping reports, order status updates, and delivery schedules.
Cross-Functional Communication:
• Serve as the primary liaison between Sales, Production, Purchasing, and Shipping departments.
• Participate in production meetings to review schedules, inventory levels, and customer demand.
• Communicate forecast changes and production priorities to relevant stakeholders.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to planning, inventory control, and logistics.
Reporting & Analysis:
• Generate reports on forecast accuracy, production performance, inventory levels, and shipping metrics.
• Analyze trends and identify opportunities to improve production efficiency and customer service levels.
• Track key performance indicators (KPIs) including on-time delivery, inventory turns, and forecast accuracy.
Qualifications:
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations Management, or related field preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in production planning, scheduling, inventory control, logistics, or manufacturing operations.
• Experience in wood products, building materials, or manufacturing environments preferred.
• Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Excel.
Key Competencies:
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Skills:
• Demand forecasting and production scheduling experience. • Knowledge of inventory management principles.
• Understanding of shipping, logistics, and transportation coordination.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement processes.
• Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
• Manufacturing/industrial environment with exposure to noise, heat, and moving equipment.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting.
• Must follow all PPE and safety requirements.
• Ability to work flexible shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed.
