Job Summary:
The Safety Specialist ensures a safe work environment by promoting, developing, and implementing safety programs and procedures. This role involves identifying workplace hazards, conducting Job Safety Analyses (JSA), performing safety audits and inspections, and supporting compliance with company policies and regulations to minimize risks and prevent incidents.
Duties & Responsibilities:

- Ensure the workplace adheres to all safety regulations (OSHA, company policies).
- Assist in developing, implementing, and enforcing safety policies and procedures.
- Assist in conducting safety training sessions for employees on various topics (PPE, equipment handling, emergency procedures).
- Ensure employees understand and follow safety protocols and procedures.
- Conduct and update Job Safety Analyses to identify potential hazards in work tasks.
- Work with teams to develop safe work procedures and mitigate risks.
- Complete periodic LOTO audits.
- Perform regular safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Identify areas for improvement and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Investigate workplace incidents, near misses, and hazards.
- Document findings and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Identify and assess potential hazards in the workplace.
- Develop strategies to eliminate or mitigate risks.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, safety inspections, audits, and training.
- Prepare reports for management regarding safety performance and compliance.
- Promote a culture of safety through clear communication and employee engagement.
- Serve as a point of contact for employees to report safety concerns.
- Assist in developing and maintaining emergency response plans.
- Conduct drills to ensure readiness for emergencies.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
2+ years of experience in a safety-related role, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification is a plus.
Strong knowledge of safety regulations and best practices.
Forklift experience.
Experience conducting JSAs, audits, and inspections.
Excellent communication and training skills.
Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Physical Demands: The physical demands and work environment are representative of a typical manufacturing environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level is moderate to high depending on the area of the mill. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. Requires close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds and is regularly exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and extreme hot and cold temperatures.
