Job Description

Position Title: Forklift Operator – Production Support
Division: Doors

Purpose:

The Forklift Operator – Production Support is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting materials throughout the facility to support production operations. This position primarily ensures production lines are supplied with the necessary materials and that finished goods and components are moved between departments as required. The operator may also assist with shipping activities when needed.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate forklift equipment to transport raw materials, components, and finished goods throughout the facility.
  • Deliver materials to production lines in a timely manner to ensure uninterrupted production.
  • Move finished product and work-in-progress materials between departments or staging areas.
  • Remove scrap, pallets, and unused materials from production areas to maintain an organized workspace.
  • Assist production teams with staging and organizing materials for upcoming production runs.
  • Maintain accurate inventory movements using handheld devices or system transactions when required.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of materials to prevent damage or quality issues.
  • Assist the shipping department with loading or staging trucks when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with plant housekeeping standards.
  • Use proper PPE while performing all job duties.
  • Adhere to all plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure accuracy and quality in all tasks performed.
  • Assist with other production functions as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of two (2) years of forklift operating experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
  • Ability to safely maneuver forklifts in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively.
  • Ability to work well and collaborate in a team environment.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to use handheld scanners or computers to complete assigned tasks.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions to complete assigned tasks.
  • Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and other PPE as required.
  • Willing and able to work in a hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environment.
  • High level of attention to detail.

 

Reporting Line and Supervisory Responsibilities

This position reports directly to the Shift Supervisor.

No supervisory responsibility.

 

 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

This person is expected to perform work on the manufacturing floor. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit; use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.

This is a full-time position. This position may occasionally require long hours and weekend work.
