Job Summary:

 

The Mechanic is a skilled tradesman who installs, dismantles, repairs, reassembles, troubleshoot the basic components of rolling stock and heavy equiptment (i.e. lift trucks, Bob Cats, Genie Boom lifts, scissor lifts, diesel fire pumps, pickups and small gas engine equipment,excavators, wheel loaders, skid steers, etc.) for facility and log yard. Complete PM's and perform work safely. This individual uses a strong knowledge of equipment capabilities, as well as an understanding of maintenance manual and technical instructions, to repair and return equipment to operating status.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • While this role does not presently include direct report management, it carries lead responsibilities and may evolve to include supervisory duties in the future.
  • Required to supply all tools necessary for job duties outlined below.
  • Work with management and hourly personnel
  • Computer skills to enter work orders and use the CMMS System
  • Strong commitment towards safety (be able to perform safety inspections)
  • Engine trouble shooting (gas, diesel, LPG)
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulic pumps and components
  • Inspect and examine rolling stock and equipment to detect and find irregularities and malfunctions.
  • Adjust and repair or replace defective parts.
  • Install, troubleshoot and maintain power train, hydraulics, phematics, etc on rolling stock
  • Parts ordering and inventory
  • Reading and understanding service manuals
  • Operate machine tools, such as lathes and grinders, to fabricate parts required during overhaul, maintenance or set-up of machinery.
  • Welding and Fabrication
  • Clean, lubricate and perform all other routine maintenance work on rolling stock. Ensure the proper care for machinery, equipment, fittings, and bearings on a regular basis to maintain equipment is in good operating condition.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Must be able to walk and stand for log periods of time, with twisting, bending, kneeling, stooping and squatting
  • Ascend and descend stairs/ladders
  • Abide by all safety/environmental policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Requirements:

 

  • 4 or more years of experience as a diesel mechanic or equivelant experience

 

Skills:

 

  • Engine troubleshooting (diesel, gas and LPG)
  • Welding and fabricating.
  • Basic knowledge of hydraulic pumps and components.
  • Automotive electrical and electronic systems.
  • Brake, exhaust, fuel (gas, diesel, propane) and cooling systems.
  • Automatic transmissions.
  • Differentials.
  • Parts ordering and parts inventory.
  • Maintaining and servicing plant rolling stock (i.e. fork lifts, Bob Cats, Genie Boom lifts, scissor lifts, diesel fire pumps, pickups and small gas engine equipment, excavators, wheel loaders, skid steers, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to relate and positively interact with team members
  • Ability to identify root cause of problems and effectively initiate immediate corrective action to prevent reoccurrence
  • Ability to think critically and take proper action
  • Detail oriented and work accuracy focus
  • Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy
  • Use logical step-by-step procedures in work
  • Must be a safety minded individual
  • Lifting and physical activity is required
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical specifications
