Woodgrain in Independence, VA is looking for an organized, detailed, and customer service oriented Purchasing Agent.

Job Summary:

The Purchasing Agent is responsible for the day to day storeroom operation and procurement of parts, supplies, and materials for various mobile equipment, production machines, storeroom items, etc. The primary task is to ensure necessary resources are received at the best value, on time, and within budget. The position plays a crucial role in building and maintaining positive work relationships with vendors and suppliers to best support the facilities needs.      

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist maintenance and production personal as needed to provide good customer service and expedited support.
  • Scan all receiving documentation and attach to each individual purchase order in SAP.
  • Resolve purchase order or receiving issues utilizing SAP Opentext program.
  • Utilize SAP MRP reorder reporting daily for the reordering of storeroom materials.
  • Establish and manage storeroom material reorder point/maximum quantities per usage history.
  • Maintain SAP inventory material records, to assure information accuracy.
  • Maintain SAP inventory material descriptions and accuracy of shelf label descriptions.
  • Reorganize storeroom items when needed, assuring a well organized storeroom.
  • Direct and perform monthly revolving physical inventory of storeroom materials to insure all materials are counted at least once annually.
  • Maintain accurate software information in SAP programs ( Accurate information is essential ).
  • Prepare UPS, Fed-Ex, and LTL freight for shipment (such as items being sent in for repair, samples being sent for the sales department, etc.).
  • Meet with sales persons when viably possible, as to benefit from new products and from their product knowledge.
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of all departments of this facility, by providing pricing, availability and substitution information which could be used in the decision making process relating to their department or project.
  • Utilize competitive vendors with timely delivery records.
  • Expedite parts and supplies that are not readily available.
  • Acquire parts locally when needed.
  • Pickup parts and supplies locally when required.
  • Other duties assigned by Plant Manager.

 

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/G.E.D and equivalent college degree experience in purchasing
  • Knowledge of inventory control and basic shipping and receiving
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have clean DMV record
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Abillity to clearly communicate written and verbally 100% of the work day
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in use of personal computers and related software applications such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Geographical Information Systems.
  • Mobility: Stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle and grip, feel and reach with hands and arms, stoop, twist, and bend 20% of their work schedule
  • The employee must be able to lift up to 50lbs occasionally, and/or up to 25lbs frequently, between ground and shoulder level during their daily work schedule

The physical demands and work environment are representative of a typical sawmill environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. Noise level is moderate to high depending on the area of the mill. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. Requires close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds and is regularly exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and extreme hot and cold temperatures.
