Work Environment: Monday – Friday 7:00 am – 3:00 pm

 

Job Summary:

The Gesso Operator plays a vital role in the production of door frames, flat jambs, and brick mold by operating a machine that is used for the application of a gesso coating to the various products. The proper application of the gesso coating will reduce defects and improve the finish on the product.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Setup and operate equipment used to coat door frames and other products with gesso.
  • Monitor the application of gesso to ensure consistent coverage and product quality, while troubleshooting and adjusting the equipment as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area, adhering to safety and environmental protocols.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting of the machine.
  • Ensure that the machine has enough glue and calcium to create the gesso. Add more glue and calcium(50 pound bags) as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Moulder Operator to ensure efficient production and quality of the product.
  • Provide guidance and direction to employees who are stacking or sanding on the line. 
  • Train others to perform the responsibilities of Gesso Operator.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to troubleshoot efficiently 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers and leadership
  • Prior experience operating machines in a manufacturing environment

Physical Demands:

The physical demands and work environment are representative of a typical manufacturing environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level is moderate to high depending on the area of the mill. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. Requires close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds and is regularly exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and extreme hot and cold temperatures.

 

Travel:

This position does not require travel to other Woodgrain locations.
