The Production Manager plans and leads the daily activities of production areas of the facility.  The Production Manager will directly oversee the log yard, sawmill, planer, kilns and shipping departments with a focus on safety. This requires both a focus on leadership as well as the full utilization of information, procedures and methods to positively impact the materials, machines, internal and external customers of the facility.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, Expectations and Performance Measures What measures or metrics will the individual be measured on and what level of performance is required?  Other duties may be assigned.
SAFETY
•    Ensure the safety and well-being of all employees in the manufacturing facility. 
•    Identify areas where safety issues could arise and take measures to proactively address the concerns. 
•    Participate in weekly, monthly, semi-annual and annual safety and environmental audits. 
•    Actively participate on the plant’s Safety Committee. 
•    Monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory agencies (OSHA, DEQ, EPA, etc.) including all necessary documentation.

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
•    Actively pursue measures to reduce downtime on production equipment.
•    Develop, implement, monitor and maintain performance indicators (safety, quality, cost, delivery) to fiscal deliverables. 
•    Identify opportunities and take measures to reduce waste and eliminate manufacturing issues. 
•    Coordinate initiatives to reduce operating costs.
•    Revise as needed production schedules and priorities as a result of equipment failure or operating problems.
•    Determine root causes of non-conformity with products and processes and lead preventive and corrective actions. 
•    Attend workshops to enhance industry knowledge and the capabilities of the plant.

ORGANIZATION / TASK MANAGEMENT
•    Completes tasks in a timely and organized fashion.
•    Work with the maintenance staff to develop a Reliability Based program to proactively address equipment issues.
•    Plan and manage for effective and efficient utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment. 
•    Plan, schedule and monitor production schedules to meet needs and priorities.

TEAM MANAGMENT
•    Actively supervise production employees in the everyday coordination, execution and planning of production, kilns, planer and shipping efforts.
•    Instill a TEAM concept in the work place. 
•    Train and develop highly effective employees, facilitate changes in working conditions and equipment, conduct employee hiring, discipline, and termination.  

COMMUNICATION AND CONDUCT
•    Maintain a good working relationship with the plant management, supervisory staff and hourly employees. 
•    Continually communicate in a positive manner. 
•    Conduct oneself in a manner that is reflective of the Company's policies.
•    Consult with maintenance and engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment in order to maintain and improve production and quality of products.

Knowledge/Skills/Education and Continuous Training 
What skills/certification/education must the individual have/maintain/gain?  Include any degrees, certifications, and licenses required.
Education / Experience / Certification
•    Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
•    Minimum 5-10 years experience in management of production processes, preferably in wood manufacturing environment.  
•    Substantial knowledge of wood products and mechanical equipment expertise.
•    Management experience with positive results leading others.
