Woodgrain Millwork in Elkin, NC is looking for an experienced Knuckle Boom/Loader Operator.

Job Summary:
The Knuckle Boom/Loader Operator will be working in a sawmill log yard loading and unloading contracted logger trailers, keep log yard and log ricks organized by wood species, and assist with maintaining mill decks full for processing. The operator will be expected to operate all equipment in a safe manner and meet the schedules supplied by supervisors. Duties & Responsibilities:
- Loads and unloads log trucks.
- Ability to recognized log wood species then sort and organize log ricks based upon the species.
- Maintain a mix of logs on mill log decks needed to keep various saws operating.
- Maintains good rapport with truck drivers to improve process.
- Perform equipment preventative maintenance checks and minor maintenance when needed.
- Attend log yard safety meetings.
- Identifies and corrects quality problems in own work.
- Keeps equipment clean.
- Performs responsibilities as assigned by log yard coordinator.
- Will backup and assist entire team with various other tasks as needed.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED (or higher).
- Requires experience and knowledge with operating a self-propelled wheeled knuckle boom and driving either a Front-End Loader, 996 or similar heavy equipment.
- Ability to participate as a team member and proactive in process environment.
- Strong communication skills.
- Knowledgeable in the preventive maintenance process of heavy equipment.

The physical demands and work environment are representative of a typical sawmill environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. Noise level is moderate to high depending on the area of the mill. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. Requires close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds and is regularly exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and extreme hot and cold temperatures.
