PRIMARY ROLE

Position Summary

This position reports to [Insert Manager’s Title]. Production I is responsible for assembling and fabricating prepared components required to construct a pre-hung door unit. Key job functions include preparing components for assembly and assembling the unit according to specifications on the work ticket. To be successful, a Production I must demonstrate high attention to detail, produce accurate work, and maintain a strong commitment to working safely.

JOB EXPECTATIONS

Main Responsibilities Essential Tasks

  • Operate line machinery and provide direction to other employees working on the line when serving as the back-up Machine Operator.
  • Perform job functions efficiently while meeting required daily output and quality standards.
  • Fabricate and assemble all types of pre-hung doors including singles, patios, doubles, triples, and various configurations with fixed or vented sidelights and transoms.
  • Proficiently perform cut-downs (height and width), machine mortise cassettes, three-point locks, and electronic card locks.
  • Read and interpret drawings provided to machine/assemble the special requirements of a door assembly.
  • Understand height and width requirements of doors on orders (rough openings, net unit openings) and calculate finished assembly measurements per the work order.
  • Train other employees on all aspects of the Production I position including jamb/frame/sill prep, differences between “in-swing” and “out-swing,” safe and efficient machine operations, and assembly of all door types.
  • Maintain a clean work area during and at the end of each shift; clean and store tools and equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

If not already trained in the above requirements, the training period will be 90 days. By the end of training, the employee must demonstrate independent competency in the requirements listed above. If unable to do so, the individual may be given the opportunity to move to a Production II position if available. Additional duties may be assigned related to Woodgrain employment.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience Knowledge

Skills and Abilities

TOOLS USED (include but are not limited to): chop saw, table saw, rip saw, hand saw, router, nail gun, screw gun, door machine, various pneumatic tools, and drills.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED and at least five years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and understand written instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence and effectively communicate in one-on-one or small group settings.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, including weight, volume, and distance measurements.

OTHER SKILLS/CERTIFICATION:
Forklift certification may be required depending on branch requirements.

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions and understand branch/industry standards for identification, measurement, repair, replacement, and modification of products.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands for handling and manipulation, reach with hands and arms, and communicate verbally. Frequent standing and walking are required. Employees must frequently lift and/or move 75–100 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
